Embracing Liberation: A Queer Dharma Journey This Pride Month
Hi beloveds,
We’re already stepping into the second week of June, and if you’re anything like me, you can still feel the electric pulse of Pride flowing through the air. The rainbow flags wave, the music pulses, and the collective spirit of celebration is everywhere. But this month, I’m inviting you — not just to celebrate Pride as a moment in time — but to lean into liberation as a deeper, ongoing practice. Liberation is more than a party or a parade; it is a radical act of living fully and freely in a world that often tries to keep us small.
For those of us who identify as queer, trans, and LGBTQIA+, liberation carries an extra weight and an even greater urgency. It is personal. It is political. It is spiritual. It is the breath we take as we claim our truth and our power, no matter what the world around us says.
This month in my yoga classes, we are diving headfirst into the theme of Liberation — exploring what it truly means to be free, and how we can begin to walk that path together, breath by breath, moment by moment.
What Does Liberation Really Mean?
Last week, we explored the first vital step toward liberation: the awakening to the truth that we are not just a body, nor only a mind — we are a soul. A sacred, luminous being inhabiting this particular body and mind in this present moment. This realization is the spark that lights our journey.
This week, as we continue to deepen, we turn our attention to what the ancient Yoga Sutras call the unfolding of intuitive knowledge — that deep inner knowing that flows continuously and guides us on the path to freedom.
Yoga Sutra 2.26 teaches us:
“The continuous flow of intuitive knowledge is the way to freedom.”
And 2.27 offers this insight:
“On that way to freedom, intuitive knowledge unfolds in seven stages.”
What are these seven stages? They invite us to:
See the patterns and stories that limit us — and choose to release them
Loosen the hold of old pain and habitual suffering
Quiet the noise and distractions of life, allowing our consciousness to become still
Move closer to samadhi — the experience of unity with our True Self and all that is
This unfolding is not always linear or easy. It asks us to hold space for discomfort, to trust the unknown, and to welcome transformation with an open heart.
Introducing A Queer Dharma — A Class to Celebrate and Embody Liberation
This Saturday at 4 PM, I am holding a very special, free class at Resilient Soul Yoga — A Queer Dharma. This is a love letter and an open invitation to my LGBTQIA+ family and allies to gather in community and dive into liberation together.
What is Queer Dharma?
Dharma, in Sanskrit, means our highest truth — the unique, sacred path each of us walks. Queer Dharma is about honoring that truth in the fullness of our identities and experiences. It is about embracing our queerness, our resilience, and our radical self-love as spiritual practice.
In this class, we will:
Move gently and mindfully through asana — accessible postures designed to meet you where you are and honor your body
Connect deeply through pranayama — breathwork that anchors us in presence and power
Explore meditation — rooting us in the unshakable truth of who we are beyond form and thought
Raise our voices in chanting — calling in joy, healing, and liberation energy
Gather as a community — because liberation is never a solo journey
Beginners are absolutely welcome — whether you’re new to yoga, new to meditation, or just new to this kind of community space.
Why Community Care Matters: Supporting Trans Lifeline
I am also honored to open this space with optional donations benefiting Trans Lifeline, a grassroots organization that offers direct emotional and financial support to trans people in crisis. This incredible nonprofit is run for the trans community by the trans community, and they provide life-saving resources that embody what queer liberation looks like in action: mutual aid, solidarity, and care.
Come As You Are — And Come Home to Yourself
Whether you arrive sparkling with pride and celebration, or quietly carrying your burdens, tired or strong, curious or skeptical — this class is for you. This is a sacred space to come back home to yourself, to remember your worth, your beauty, and your power.
Because here’s the truth I hold close:
None of us are free until all of us are free.
So let’s rise together. Let’s breathe together. Let’s liberate together.
I would be honored to see you on the mat this Saturday for A Queer Dharma — to move, to chant, to breathe, and to shine with an open heart.
With pride, with love,
Aza Rose
